Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Metoolzy (“we”, “us”) handles your information across the Metoolzy website (metoolzy.com) and the Metoolzy Chrome extension (“the Extension”). We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service.
Summary
- Most tools (QR codes, image tools, formatters, generators) run entirely in your browser. The files and text you process are not uploaded to our servers.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Generated QR images are not stored on our servers — they are recreated from your content on demand.
Information we collect
Account information
If you create an account or sign in (including with Google), we store your name, email address, and profile image to identify your account. Authentication is handled via secure session cookies.
Content you create
When you create a short link or a dynamic QR code while signed in, we store the destination URL, the generated short code, and aggregate click/scan counts so you can manage them from your dashboard. Tools that run locally (image resizing/compression/conversion, formatters, password and color generators, etc.) process data only in your browser and send nothing to us.
Usage data
We use Google Tag Manager / analytics to understand aggregate, anonymized usage (pages visited, tool usage). We may log standard request metadata (IP address, user agent) for security and rate limiting.
The Chrome Extension
The Metoolzy Chrome extension requests these permissions for the stated purposes only:
- activeTab — read the current tab’s URL when you choose to shorten it or make a QR code.
- contextMenus — add the right-click “Shorten this link” action.
- storage — store your API key and a local history of links on your own device.
- clipboardWrite — copy a generated short link to your clipboard.
- scripting — show a confirmation toast on the page after an action.
- cookies — read the metoolzy.com session cookie so the extension can recognize that you are already signed in. The cookie value is sent only to metoolzy.com to verify your session; it is never shared with third parties.
- Host access to metoolzy.com — call the Metoolzy API to shorten links and create QR codes.
The extension’s local history is stored on your device and can be cleared at any time from the extension. The extension does not collect browsing history, keystrokes, or the content of pages you visit.
How we use information
- To provide and maintain the service (creating links/QRs, showing your dashboard).
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To prevent abuse (rate limiting, fraud and spam prevention).
- To improve our tools through anonymized, aggregate analytics.
Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only with service providers that help us operate (e.g. hosting, analytics, our WordPress-based content backend) and only as needed to run the service, or when required by law.
Data retention
We keep account data and the links/QRs you create until you delete them or close your account. Locally processed tool data is never sent to us, so we have nothing to retain for it.
Your rights
You can access, update, or delete your links and account data from your dashboard, or by contacting us. You may delete individual short links and dynamic QR codes at any time.
Children
Metoolzy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
